PJ’s Reaction: Week 6 - Patriots 20, Cowboys 16
Can we stop wearing silver with our blue? Cowboys fans are tired of looking for silver linings. (Good intro, right?) I can name a dozen positives about this loss, but at the end of the day it’s still a loss.

Cowboys fans got exactly what they wanted this week. With four minutes left and a small lead, the coaching staff took the ball out of Tony Romo’s hands to avoid late game turnovers. What we got instead was a three and out that gave the ball back to Tom Brady. Is it the coaching staff’s fault? Yes and no. With a better running game, the conservative playcalling was correct — and even more correct given Romo’s recent past. The qualifier there is: “With a better running game.”
Demarco, Felix and Tashard had a decent day running the ball and seemed to pick up steam in the second half, but I maintain this stable of backs has yet to show they can be counted on with the game on the line — whether it is a goal line situation or putting the game on ice.
So who does the blame fall on when we don’t have Tony Romo for a scapegoat? Uh… the blame falls on the Dallas Cowboys, like it should’ve fallen in every loss. Penalties continue to plague the team and proved costly in this game. A pass interference in the end zone was negated by a hold. That penalty alone could be considered the difference in the game.
So what about those pointless silver linings? Well, the defense played a phenomenal game up until giving up the final drive down the field for Brady and company. You’d like to hope they could close out the game, but nobody’s going to gripe when they shut out Brady for as long as they did. The running game did show a bit of improvement and Tony Romo came out and played a decent game after his meltdown against Detroit, ignoring that first interception which had some fans ready to pack it in for the season (whatever).
What else is there to say? We misssed out on a great opportunity to stay even with Washington for second place in the division (currently owning the tie-breaker), but now we are third. We’ve dropped three games to good teams we could’ve easily beaten. It’s kind of a blah feeling, no? Well, suck it up; there’s still a lot of season to go.
Interesting Stat 1: Our losses have come by a combined total of 11 points against teams with a combined record of 12-5.
Interesting Stat 2: Tom Brady and Tony Romo are currently tied with Cam Newton for most second half interceptions with 5. Brady and Aaron Rodgers have one more fourth quarter interception apiece than Romo.
